Winning the presidency, the highest office in the land, is the last gasp of the party? Seriously?

That's like saying winning the superbowl was the patriot's last gasp. Comically incorrect.

True or false?
Whatever floats you boat.

The Democrats have been losing election after election, and losing badly, for eight long years. The only political party in it's "last gasps" might be them, not the Republicans.

Honestly, it could be like when Carter beat Ford in 76, other than him, the Reich wingers had the presidency from 69 until 92

That depends on whether or not they continue to behave as if they had an overwhelming mandate rather than a razor thin margin of victory largely decided by "votes in the right places" or not.

That's good. We need to keep having these flukes with every election from here on out.

How is this not an actual mandate, we havent seen this kind of domination of politics in our lifetime. Under obama the Democrats were decimated, over 1000 seats lost, the house and congress, scotus, the presidency, rthe majority of governorships and the leaders of the Democrats are far left idiots like nancy pelosi , a far left Hispanic in tom perez and far left black muslim in keith ellison and chuck shumer!

In 2018 the dems are going to even lose the ability to filibuster. I dont see how anyone can be optimistic about the Democrat party, at least in england they know their equivalent of the dems, the labor party is cooked for 20 years Labour faces 20 years out of power, Tony Blair warns in bitter attack on Jeremy Corbyn - Telegraph

The Obama, Soros and Clinton Cartel had government dialed in and would destroy anyone who opes them. My points are:

IRS goes after Conservative Groups.
Conservative Citizens targeted for harassment
Paid Agitators during the Campaign to current
Key figures disappear or meet a untimely death.
Failure to prosecute HRC
Collusion in Gov for power.
Obama Loyalist disrupting the New Administration and Leaking secret material for Political gain.

The List goes on!

President Trump Love him or Hate him has already changed the face of Politics.

It isn't a mandate because the majority of people are not behind it. Many of them were lazy or dissafected voters. But, if enough is done by the government to anger them they may become non-lazy and non-dissafected voters (which is basically what happened this go around with the R's) - that is the traditional danger of pushing party politics to far to either side, especially when you won on delegates and not the popular vote.

Basically, if you push to far to either size you energize the opposition's base and placate your own.

This time they managed to squeak by on narrow margins in some key demographic areas despite having less votes overall. How much of a vote deficit can they actually overcome remains to be seen, but the race was a lot closer than the red/blue map would indicate at a glance. It would not have taken very much at all to tip the scales in the other direction, and if they **** off enough people that is what will (and historically has) happen.

I don't have too much of a dog in the hunt since I voted for the guy whose primary platform was "We want to leave you alone". That and my personal distaste for Trump given his history as a dishonest huckster scam artist. I didn't like Hilary either given her poor history, no so much her emails and crap like that, just her history of basically going where ever the political winds are blowing and lacking any sort of consistent principles. But if things continue to go the way they are I would consider voting blue in the mid terms just to attempt to bring some power checks back into the balance. I am probably not the only one.
