Are the news media suppose to stand when a press secretary enters the room? I know in a court room, everyone stands when a judge enters.

If you listen very closely, at 12 seconds of the video, someone says, "All Rise" and no one stood.

The press briefing was actually pretty tame today.

No, the press core doesn't rise when the press secretary comes in.

I think someone was making a joke with the 'all rise'. That's why Spicer laughed.

No. At least not in any tradition.
The press only stands in the press room when the President enters. They have never stood when a Press Secretary enters, but there is nothing to stop anyone who wants to from standing. Sometimes, if there's something hot that is going to happen, reporters stand just to get a first shot at a question.

Demanding they stand is nuts.

But that's what happens when you elect a president who can't read.

At least they didn't throw tomatoes at him.

I'd take it as a victory.

It's almost like sending him out his first day on the job to tell a bald faced lie about crowd size to the press corps was a bad idea and blew his creditably then and there.....hmmm
