Everything is offensive to those who look to be offended by anything. Speaking or wearing a shirt with a saying on it will be a microagression to someone, so don't do either! Naked and mum's the word are the only safe choices.....but some will be offended by silence, too.
I heard the "catch a tiger" version many times growing up and never knew there was another version 'till I saw it on the internet.
I learned it with the N word. Probably learned it from my older brother and sister, who in turn learned it from our mother. She was a total Dixiecrat. Very prejudiced. When I got old enough to know who the N word was referencing, I immediately stopped saying it.
It was used in a racist way right up to the 90s.... I know because I could hear the local kids using it......
I never heard nor used the racist version. We ALWAYS said, "catch a tiger by the toe." I only heard about the racist version of this rhyme a few years ago.
I'm still going after Cracker Barrel.
I demand they change the name to "The Barrel".
We will march in Washington.
Boycott Cracker Barrel until they change the name.
The same thing happened to me. I heard it at school with the N-bomb and had no clue as to what it meant. I said it at home, and my father freaked out. I guess he didn't even want me to know the connection, so he didn't tell me why not to say it, just that I was never to say it.
My mom slapped my face the first time I said that word as a child. She said " that word says a lot more about the person using it than the person it was directed at."
People are offended by the Negan rhyme? Wonder if they had a problem with him bashing skulls in with that bat of his? ( the things we do/ don't find offensive) sigh.
