In the long run I think this policy will help all us contractors. We all know that there is more than enough contractors that have cheap labor by paying a bunch of Mexicans close to nothing "under the table" making it difficult for us legit guys to win the bids when we pay decent wages

The business class isn't going to allow any real restrictions on illegal immigration, because they benefit from the cheap labor.

One possible solution would be to legalize the illegals, so that they wouldn't have to work under the table.

Or make E-verify the law of the land so that we can hold those who hire illegals accountable.

LOL,you know nothing of the sort and you want us to presume that you do,not going to happen. President Trump is not a friend of contractors as is well documented.

That will never happen. Those who hire illegals (big ag) own the politicians.

I'm sure the American skilled trades workers will be happy if illegals aren't around to take their jobs, which are keeping their wages low. Customers will pay more for the labor of American workers; I'm willing.

You don't say?

I'm sure the construction industry said the same thing about freeing slaves in the 1800s.

I don't know how democrats haven't been called out on this. This idea of tolerating illegal immigrants because they provide cheap labor is really a tolerance for the desire to exploit cheap labor and just a step above slavery.

Democrats say...'hey our fruit is cheaper...we build things cheaper...we need these people!"

Well duh! You're paying them penny's on the dollar. How can you even take a moral stance on that?

Joe Farmer's or Joe Manufacturer's only real concern about cheap labor is imports. A farmer or business that has to pay higher wages to US workers will simply pass those costs onto consumers. It's only when the farmer across the street is employing illegals and undercutting him this becomes an issue, eliminate the illegals and you eliminate that problem because they are both paying higher wages.

Where are they? Why do you think there is a market for immigrant labor? We have a tendency as humans to want to move up the ladder.

I used to watch contractors drive into Freehold NJ just to get day labor. It became a business where now businesses have been created that will supply day labor for a fee.

The farmer across the street doesn't want to give up his competitive advantage, so he's going to donate to the campaigns of politicians who refuse to eliminate illegals.

There will never be any real action on the illegal immigration problem. Too many wealthy people benefit from the status quo.
