What difference does it make if the press briefing was televised or not? Are there different rules, or something?

Because nobody was banned. The Press Pool along with Spicer were all at CPAC covering Trump there.

Not sure why that is so hard to understand.
CPAC isn't controlled by Trump. In fact, I think it's a riot that he's speaking today after snubbing it last year.

Bannon said yesterday we "were never going to get our country back. Never". This is another major step in that direction.

Whatever your politics, controlling the Army (cabinet) and now attempting to control the news media are two BIG steps toward an autocratic government. This MUST be stopped before all of our rights are co-opted by a lunatic.
Actually the Obama Administration did the same thing. Much ado about nothing

So it was a 'behind closed doors' press briefing? Why? (since you seem to know so much)

Were the press who were behind the closed door told not to report what they were briefed on?

According to The New York Times: “Fox’s television news competitors refused to go along with a Treasury Department effort on Thursday [October 22, 2009] to exclude Fox from a round of interviews with the executive-pay czar Kenneth R. Feinberg that was to be conducted with a ‘pool’ camera crew…”. Fox News Channel’s James Rosen reported this backlash forced the Obama administration to reconsider its position on the matter: “The Washington bureau chiefs of the five TV news network consulted and decided that none of them would interview Feinberg unless Fox was included, and the administration relented…,” reported Rosen. Ultimately, after other media representatives objected, Fox News Channel was allowed to participate in the interviews.

I wonder if Jeff Gannon was re-hired... You all remember him?

Where no questions were allowed. No questions at CPAC. No questions in the James Brady Press Room in the White House. Bannon silenced the press and Spicer got a chance to promote pro-Trump propaganda.

Trump, at CPAC, had a forum to spout his usual BS and lies and act like an unhinged lunatic without those pesky questions from the free press. Which is guaranteed in the First Amendment.

That must make Putin the happiest guy on the planet.

The CPAC thing is not a press briefing.
