If the meeting was held in a small venue, that might be one reason. It doesn't really matter, however, because one thing is completely clear: CNN isn't unique in its universe; it's merely one of hundreds of similar news outlets, all doing pretty much the same thing. CNN's primary distinction is that they made their allegiance to his electoral opponent quite clear during the campaign.
The White House rightly figures that it can rely on other outlets to cover this type of event. CNN brings nothing to the table its competitors can't also provide, except a collective condescending attitude toward the administration. Who can blame this administration for saying, "Sheesh...who needs CNN, anyway? We can get their kind of cr*p anywhere."
Given CNN's well-demonstrated outright hostility to the current occupant of the White House, they have earned a most inconvenient status: they are now in the position of having to prove to the White House that they should be included in this sort of event. And thus far, CNN has been quite unpersuasive in making that case.
That's what the Germans said even during the "Final Solution". This isn't even a partisan issue rather than it's an issue called brainwashing and propaganda. Stop being delusional.
Hilarious watching the reaction from the left wing peanut gallery. So a couple far-left blogs were excluded from one press briefing, big deal. Maybe if they mature and learn to act like professionals, or at least adults, they will be let in with the big boys again. Being allowed into the White House press room is a privilege, there is no "right" that grants any particular reporter 24/7 access. Funny how the left had no issues when Obama excluded Fox reporters.
The BBC was excluded, the BBC!

Trump should deny access to all media outlets that lie.
That would be just about all of them.
That would open journalism up to people who don't lie -- a good thing. And much needed.
Exactly, the ones that report with accuracy like Breitbart and Fox should be rewarded and the liars such as CNN, NYT, CBS, NBC, BBC, NPR, should not be allowed a seat at the table until they start reporting with some level of accuracy.
Oh you mean the truth. And only babies do payback. Trump is our president who should take the high road just like every other president. Honestly, this is part of his problem. He is thin skinned and can't take any criticism. You never saw Obama do this even with the worst criticism. In fact, you never saw any president act the way Trump does. I'm sorry but it's embarrassing
No one among Trump's supporters or enemies, has ever expected him to take the high road about anything. He never attempted nor pretended to be anything other than what he is, but here he is in office. The 19.5%
of our population that voted for him, got exactly what they thought they wanted. From the first time, 40 or more years ago, that he first came into the public consciousness, he has shown us the same petty, greedy and self-serving character, that now plagues us and endangers our existence.
Obama did this while conservative outlets were not included but not one word from the drama queen media. Obviously they don't like it when it's them.
A Smart Politics analysis finds that ABC reporters have been called on the most frequently during Barack Obama’s solo news conferences followed by CBS, the Associated Press, and NBC with FOX News coming in at a distant ninth at less than half the rate of the top outlets and less than 40 percent of press conferences overall.
