All of those that were critical of Trump because of "racist" comments, if you have read this entire thread, it will indeed let you see how far off you were. You can, through many of these posts, see the hatred seeping in. Ignorance is what feeds racism. One can't even have a rational discussion with people who are prejudice, have pre-judged that blacks are "hood rats" or all wanting free stuff, etc. Racism blocks any chance at rational thought.

People tend to put themselves in prison. Or, at the very least, be tried and convicted - in a court of law - of crimes.

OP, what exactly are you suggesting..

I'm unsure of the point you're attempting to make? I had responded to this point:

Both Republican and Democrats alike are guilty of this.

I would hope Trump would at least legalize marijuana but that is to be determined.... years ago he was for the legalization and taxation of all drugs but I think his stance has changed over the years.

This is an issue worth fighting over....not all the people out there protesting Trump mainly for the fact he is a Republican.
They should legalize marijuana only because it grows out of the ground and is less harmful than alcohol, which is perfectly legal. However, it will not stop crime or drug trafficking because there's no way cocaine and meth and heroin should ever be legalized; therefore, there will always be a black market for something.

What are people doing to get jobs? You are against Trump's immigration plan when it would actually help with this issue. But of course you say it's a racist policy and these are jobs Americans won't do. Maybe they are jobs Americans used to do and no longer get the chance to do. Joe Blow out of prison can't get hired for much because no one wants to hire an ex-con. They don't have to because they have unlimited options to choose from a high immigrant population that doesn't turn their nose at hard work.

I think people deserve a second chance, but they have to get the opportunity for it.

Pretty nice article. I scanned through it, and I get the overall feeling is white people are tired of talking about black issues. I agree with that. I only wish most would understand, so we can really address the problem.

Bernie would have been better for the country. At the end of the day, I don't know if he or anyone else would do a lot for black people, but he was definitely the better candidate. I don't trust much in a candidate, republican or democrat, solving issues pertaining to black people without black people actually holding them accountable.

There are definitely gangs and thugs in the black community who kill other black people, and there is not enough outcry about that. Yet the situation black people are in today is the direct result of all the years of being discriminated against. We tried to work hard like your ancestors who couldn't speak english, but we were hunted down and exterminated. A lot of it sanctioned by the government. Think about it, my ancestors could speak english. In theory, black people should be ahead of most people in the country, including all the white immigrant descendants. The only logical explanation as to why that is not the case is because we were intentionally kept down. We had businesses burned to the ground, etc. We couldn't progress. What you see today in our community is the final result of hundreds of years of social engineering.
The only people keeping you down are yourselves. The past has been addressed in the only way it could be addressed. There is affirmative action in education, hiring practices, college grants and scholarships. Millions of poor black people take advantage of it and are successful.

But I have a serious problem with the victim mentality that keeps telling young black people that we live in a racist system and they will never have the same opportunities as white people. If I'm told constantly that I can't get ahead no matter what, what's the point of trying? Why bother studying hard and going to college? That's a problem and can be corrected over time, and is happening now. Remember it's only been two generations since the civil rights act and the end of Jim Crow laws. This stuff does not happen overnight.

Wall street embezzlement- price rigging, mtg fraud...they take MILLIONS ... and get 5 yrs,,, poor dude sells some dope 20! let me not get started because~ I will fill the page
This isn't just happening for white people. How do you think people end up with long rap sheets? Because they are given chance after chance but keep up their criminal ways.

I'm an old guy. Back in the 50s and 60s when I was a school boy, communism was the great bugaboo and we were told that one of the things that makes America so much better than Russia or China was the huge number of prisoners those nations kept behind bars. 50+ years later, it's the USA that's overtaken those totalitarian states.

It's another of the GOP's crony capitalism activities that drains taxpayer dollars with harmful effects on the taxpaying public. Obama was making moves to cut back on this atrocity. tRump has reinstated it, to no one's surprise.

& this in-depth study as well. 'Land o' the free & Home o' the brave' it's not:

In 2012, The Times-Picayune published an 8-part series exploring why Louisiana has more citizens in prison than anywhere else in the world.

In "following the money", you forgot the CCPOA - a key backer of all efforts to increase inmate counts. It's been happening for years in CA, to the point that judicial system recently mandated inmate counts be lowered.

More inmates = more guards = more union dues!!
