Not demanding? That was a very emotional role to play. The scene in the police station with the gun alone could have earned him the win, but the whole movie was outstanding.
.
and that beats Andrew Garfield role in Hacksaw Ridge........not very emotional, not very intense. not enough real for you? did you fall asleep during the film or something?
What about American Sniper? That was based on a real person. Wasn't that a movie that won Best Picture and Best Actor just 2 or 3 years ago? By the way, Clint Eastwood, the man who spoke at the RNC was the director, in case you didn't know
It was nominated (in 6 categories), but Birdman (rightfully) won the Best Picture Oscar that year.
I agree!!!.....Andrew Garfield performance in Hacksaw Ridge was incredible.
He should have won.
His dad is American (but I don't think his dad is from the South). He was born in L.A., but moved to the UK when he was 3 years old....yet he pulled off, IMO, a seamless, appropriate southern accent....in addition to the other demands re that role.
------------
I saw the reploay a few minutes ago and, IMO, Faye Dunaway is just as much to blame as Warren Beatty. One of them should have noticed the DUPLICATE envelope (Anthony Anderson just said that Emma Stone never let go of her envelope...and still has it). Obviously the printer F-ed up, but either Faye Dunaway or Warren Beatty should have noticed that it was a duplicate Best Actress envelope.
Lion looked like a great movie I could have understood that or Fences, Hidden Figures either of those would have been fine to win but overall thought it should have went to Hacksaw Ridge.
And what was the point? There were other better nominations than the one that "won" for best picture.

Umm... No it wasnt real. It was a movie.
As I said, I thought it was a good movie. I recommended it to a lot of people. I just thought another movie was better. I'm allowed to have that opinion, and it just so happens the Academy Awards agreed with me.

you want a cookie because the Academy agrees with you? LOL
yes you could have your opinion, nobody is censoring you or blacklisting you.

I loved how the various successes attributed to American Sniper drove progressives crazy, and I loved American Sniper, but you're right.....Birdman rightfully won Best Picture that year.

What? You are the one who keeps insisting that my opinion is wrong because I didnt think a fictional movie based on a "real American hero" was going to win the best actor award. I couldn't have cared less if Andrew Garfield did win. I would have been surprised, but its not like he didn't deserve the nomination. I thought all the actors in that category did a great job, I was just moved by Casey Afflecks performance and thought he was going to win.
