I'm a law-abiding citizen and I both love guns as a device and treasure its value for self-defense. However, I don't understand how craptastic our gun control laws are and how they vary so much from state to state or even municipality to municipality.
So you don't understand you live in a federal republic with sovereign States?
You might want to actually read the 2nd Amendment.
This incessant drumbeat for "sensible" gun laws never ends. Some States already have sensible gun laws and virtually no violent crime but the crazy States don't want to emulate us. Here in VT the laws are simple. You have to be 16 to possess a handgun (no age limit for rifles or shotguns) or to buy a gun, and there are certain places such as schools where you can't bring a gun. There's also some cities with bylaws against shooting in the city. That's about it. No licensing at all or any of that crazy stuff you hear about elsewhere. Open or concealed carry, your choice. And we have the lowest per capita violent crime rate in the nation. And this is a Blue State, Bernieville in fact, so don't even think of flinging any of that crazy red vs blue nonsense that other Blue States like to fling at Red States.
Gun violence has nothing to do with gun laws. It has everything to do with criminals and dysfunctional urban populations. Those folks ignore all the current gun laws so layering on more laws won't change their behavior one iota.
o A second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand;
o A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;
What amazes me about this is you have a feature that may make a gun more easy to handle, it's like banning ABS brakes with the excuse someone hot rodding would have more control of their car....
I have to ask those supporting these types of laws, do you understand the absurdity of them?

I often mention that the area I live in may have household gun ownership rate of about 90% and that is probably a conservative estimate. Gun fire is not common but it's not out of the ordinary either. The murder rate for there for decades has been 0, it's a small population but even if you adjust for the national rates there should of been a few murders.

Vermont is the perfect example of a Utopia. It also clearly shows that gun laws have no effect on crime. Vermont has low crime because most of the residents are white and middle class. This is also the reason why places like Norway, Finland, and Sweden have such low crime. A homogenous population with very little poverty means people get along with one another quite well.
If someone is willing to SHOOT another human being, can we honestly say that some dumb gun law will stop them from getting a gun illegally?
We need to work on fixing culture in urban America. Chicago has a gun problem in "the hood" where poor minorities usually live. You never hear about gun issues in the multi-million dollar neighborhoods. Yet both places have the same gun laws.

Well ya, except even poor white hoods don't have a problem like St Louis or Detroit. I think we know what the problem actually is yet everyone dances around it.
Why do poor whites have a lower crime rate than certain minorities? It should be higher since the census shows the country is still mostly white.
Yes, we have two guns in our home, and the fact there is more regulation to drive a motorcycle than own a firearm is ridiculous.
