The cables also reveal a testy personal relationship between American diplomats and their Russian counterparts. After outright rejecting a U.S. proposal to halt the U.S.'s Eastern European missile defense system plans in exchange for full Russian cooperation on ending Iran's nuclear program, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also told visiting U.S. Senator Carl Levin in an April, 2009 meeting that they would not take seriously any U.S. demand to halt sales of surface-to-air missiles to the Iranians.
Oh, that's right, because that committee has input on potential weapons treaties with the Russians among other things.
Wow, sometimes the shear unmitigated ignorance of some of you is just amazing.
This whole issue is stupid. Sessions did NOT lie under oath, he answered a question truthfully based upon the context of the question being asked. The context had to do with Trumps team speaking to Russians regarding the campaign. Sessions stated he had no knowledge of that happening and that he didn't talk to the Russians. CONTEXT means something.
This will go no where just like every other crazy accusation being thrown out by the left. Now the left is demanding his resignation, FOR WHAT??? Worst case scenario is Sessions will say that he answered the question based upon his perception of the context of the question being asked and he in no way "intentionally" lied or misled. INTENT is important here. Remember, "intent" was the very reason HRC was not prosecuted last summer. Comey said that while she exhibited "bad judgment" he could not recommend prosecution because he could not prove "intent".
The REAL story is how much support the left is losing daily due to their childish shenanigans instead of actually DOING THEIR JOBS.
Except it is not just the left. The GOP, though not calling for his resignation, are pretty much in lock step with the Dems on this one. The only people defending him are the Trump loyalists here on this forum.
"...You can tell how much trouble a Washington politician is in by how forcefully his (or her) allies push back in the immediate aftermath of a bombshell negative story. By that measure, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is in big, big trouble.
...Other leading Republicans were very hesitant to put themselves anywhere near Sessions's side on this. Jason Chaffetz, the Utah Republican who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, tweeted Thursday morning that Sessions must recuse himself from the ongoing FBI investigation into Russia's attempts to influence the 2016 election and “clarify” his testimony to the Judiciary Committee. Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio has also called for Sessions to recuse himself. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, a 2016 presidential candidate, went a step further..."
Is the main investigatory question, Did a US government representative ever meet &/or speak to a Russian person?
Political posturing - a witch hunt.
As a member of the US Armed Services Committee, Sessions had plenty of reasons to meet with Russian officials just as Carl Levin did in 2009 when he met with Russian officials as a member of that committee.
This is going to blow up in their faces.
