Trimming regulations could be helpful if unnecessary. But many regulations are needed, so we obviously cannot eliminate them all. Taxes should always be lower, corp even zero. That said, you can bet that foreign countries will lower theirs to stay competitive.

This is capitalism at work. We get cheap stuff, real goods and wealth, and we exchange our fiat. Fiat we can create at will. This is a great deal for most of America. Just not for those losing their jobs as a result. Extracting oil here will help bring back some jobs. But that won't bring back much manufacturing to the midwest or textiles and furniture to NC.

We do. As I said above imports are real gains. Fiat can be created. We lose vapor and in exchange we get real stuff. Stuff that not only costs more to produce here, but as a result of producing here we have to deal with whatever loss of resources we incur, along with any environmental degradation. So it's not all win win you see?

This is true to some extent. The effect though is meager from the start, and much of that money comes back home over time.

It did not bring the cost of food down at all as it used to. The cost to ship the food has gone down but prices still are high.

Those suffering due to long term lack of wage inflation have a serious problem. In the old days people and families moved to where they have better job opportunities. Not so much today. So as a large segment of our people are lagging, the nation as a whole is not. Our standard of living especially for our poor continues to rise despite this. But we need more policy to shore up our rural and former industrial laggers, and that will be difficult as it necessarily has to raise the cost of many goods, and redistribute wealth to those that have lagged.
In AZ food prices are actually down. I agree and remain surprised how little the oil glut did not help. In the '70's oil was a major driver, not so much today.
The USA still remains an industrial powerhouse, and there is no depression coming from laying of more industrial workers. Because they are being replaced by better technology. Stronger production, yet cheaper production. Nothing will stop this progress aside from heavy handed central regulation.

I do not agree that we need more taxes. All that does is help lower our national debt, which I don't worry about. I'd rather our people have more money to spend, increase consumer demands and then encourage more business and jobs.

I don't agree with tariffs. They are a focused tax on our people and businesses. Tariffs are simply more central taxing and control. They are instigated in order to favor and protect certain segments of our industry.
In the Reagan years onerous tariffs were placed on large displacement Japanese motorcycles in order to favor and protect Hardley. As a result I was one pissed off consumer, having to pay hundreds more for my Gold Wing. Essentially your tax. No thanks. Hardley was crap compared to Honda back then, and I'm still pissed off.

We can try and bring manufacturing back, but it won't be easy, or quick, and it could easily start trade wars which are good for no American. Except for the laggers I mentioned, if they happened to be in the right place at the right time.
So if you're not a lagger this will cost you more. Fine for me as I'm rich. But for the poor, and the broad middle class not so affected, or even oblivious, they may encounter some onerous inflation.
