How many dictionaries, reputable, include voluntarily in their definition of immigrant?

Please post links.

So, unless you feel slaves weren't people (klan and some liberals), the definition fits exactly.
I think we agree. I definitely consider the slaves immigrants because they were given full citizenship after the Civil War. If Abe Lincoln would have made it illegal for them to stay and deported them, then they would have not been immigrants. I think it's pretty simple.

If I was descended from slaves I would spend a lot less time whining and crying about it and more time being thankful for my ancestors for toughing out their situation and giving me a chance at being an American.

I mean the alternative in Africa is not great.

So what? They ended up being immigrants. Why is it so difficult? Maybe Ben Carson just wants people to MOVE ON and GET OVER IT.

Which really sounds more like hostages. Inhuman hostages because they were considered property.

So now you're going to double down and try to change the definition of another word.

Really? I've never read any accounts of Africans wanting to leave their home. They always had to be kidnapped.

Sounds to me like they liked the "alternative."

Would it have been better if Abe Lincoln had sent them back to Africa with an apology and maybe a financial settlement?
