Are you suggesting that television and internet streaming were only invented between 2009 and 2017?
That no one watched Obama's inauguration on television or the internet?
That's kind of silly, don't you think?
If you compare the total number of people who watched Obama's inaugurations (either one of them) to Trump's inauguration -- in person, on TV, or live-streaming on the internet -- Trump's inauguration was watched by more people.
What about those empty patches of grass way up front? Was The Moscow airport snowed in that day?
The empty patch of grass in the foreground had obstructed views because of the tents and no video screens, so obviously no one would stand there. The first area beyond the tents (on the white tarp) appears to not have video screens, so no one would stand there.
If you look at the areas further back (nearer to the capital), the crowd sizes look similar.
You'll notice that the most heavily crowded areas in the Obama photo are nearer to the foreground of the picture. Why is this? Well, most people probably took the rapid transit to get there considering that driving would be too much of a hassle. Where are the closest rail stations? In the foreground. The closest is on 12th Street which is between the grassy patch and the tents. So if you were getting of the rail line for Trump's inauguration and saw you would have an obstructed view or no video monitors from which to watch and thinking that it would be too crowded up front, you might decide to go back home where you could at least watch it on t.v.

Somebody should have told that to the so-called president. He sent out his press secretary the day after the inauguration to demand the press lie and claim his inauguration was the biggest EVAH!
It was if you include TV audience and live-streaming audience.
Sad! I predict some tantrums at the WH this morning...
No doubt, Mr. insecure 'Tiny Hands Trump' who forced his wife to testify to his prowess in bed, will have a conniption fit, might possibly even be the straw that puts him in a straight jacket!
