Given how much they like to sexy up stories to get clicks anymore I don't really know what to think about this.
The fact that it escalated enough that the pilot got involved would be a warning sign to most people to dial it down a notch given the ramifications of throwing a hissy fit over a blanket.
But at least he kept it real, even if the airline over-reacted he's not too bright.
Just make new TSA guidelines that all passengers will have blankets inserted rectally at the preflight security checkpoint and then no one will have to ask for one. They gonna get up in there eventually anyway might as well get a free blanket out of it.
Overreaction from both sides, but was it really worth the expense of diverting the flight and inconveniencing the other passengers over a blanket? Just give the guy the blanket and deal with it when you land at the correct destination. So stupid on so many levels.
I imagine if the other passengers were given an option of pooling their money and paying the $12 for him or being diverted they would have coughed up the $12. Heck, were I on the flight I'd have handed over the entire $12 myself.

It amazes me seeing videos like this that people get so crazy on an airplane of all places! You're trapped for hours.
That may be why they go crazy.

That's when it pays off to be in first class. Another round for me and my friends.
I was flying home to IAH from LAX a couple of years ago, and when I went to check in And get my boarding pass, I got that wonderful $99 upgrade option. I bought it immediately. Sat on the tarmac in LA so long, they had to return to the gate to put in a new flight crew. It wasn't awful sitting up front on a Dreamliner with drinks and snacks. Best $99 ever!
