Geert Wilders' Party for Freedom failed to win a majority in the election and they were not invited to form a coalition government with the incumbent ruling party, relegating the PVV to opposition status. Voter turnout was 78.6% in the Netherlands, compared to the US's 55.4%.

And in the latest France poll, Marine Le Pen is behind for the first time in months.

If she goes down, it's a world-wide rejection of the quickly sprouted nationalism.

Unfortunately here in the US, we're stuck with our jingoistic President Bonkers.

The cheese stands alone.

"main stream" parties will not form coalitions with the nativist parties. The social democrat types would invite the communists in before they accepted the nativist parties.

The world does not need another lunatic in power. Our POTUS is enough to warn the rest of the democratic nations populations that they better get off their duffs and vote. We have to put up with this for 4 years.

This may be exactly what's going on.

Brexit and Trump have both been a wake-up call for voters around the world.

For those that don't know...........

The Dutch Parliament has at least 20 political parties, so they NEVER have a majority government.

It is NOT like the system in the US, with only two parties.

Having said that, the result of the vote is not unexpected, as the population of The Netherlands is conservative, at least in their political point of view. In other things they are very progressive, such as in their relaxed attitude about recreational drug use. Their military services are unionised.

Wilders campaigned on Islamophobia, nativism, while championing other liberal causes.....

Wilders and Le Pen are true nationalists, Trump is not nearly as radical as those two.

The same thing happened in Australia, with the dreadful Pauline Hanson losing major ground. The world has seen what's happening here and does not want another Trump.

For those concerned about the recent global rise of populist anti-migrant rabble-rousers, an election in Australia over the weekend provides a glimmer of hope.

Right-wing firebrand Pauline Hanson's One Nation party appears to have received only 5 per cent of the vote in the state election in Western Australia, and is on track to win just one seat out of 59 in the lower house.

The party's momentum came to a crashing halt on Saturday, following a strong performance in last year's federal election when it won four seats.
