This was not a victory for the Dems, it was a victory for the American people who were about to get a healthcare system that would have been worse than ACA.
reality is they only had congress and the executive office for maybe 2 months?
They gained more and more power in 2010, 2014, and then 2016. They won those 3 years' elections off the promise of passing Obamacare repeal, so yeah their inability to do what they've been promising for 7 years now that they have full control is pretty bad.
Why was this trash legislation the best they could come up with in 7 years with no Plan B?
Take the billions upon billions of dollars of profit these sharks make off our healthcare and make going to the doctor affordable again. Break up Phizer and all the big pharma firms and give the research grants to universities and medical schools. Enough is enough.
You can nationalize it without going this far.
I don't understand why we make things do hard. Just look at the Swiss, German or Danish systems and take the best parts and be done with it. They have profit making Pharma and everything else.
It's really a matter of properly regulating the market.
So to be clear, we could have universal health care without the trouble of nationalizing it. Just like we all have electric (utilities) and yet it's not nationalized, just regulated.
The ACA is actually a good start - but the GOP ruined a lot of it the first time around by messing with the Medicaid and other components of it.
The US is a big country. We could even have multiple system - universal care in a typical fashion and a "boutique" higher end situation where people could pay cash or very high yearly fees for access to a select pool.
Docs should be sent to medical school for free if they are going to work for the universal system - but charged if they want to nix "medicare" and work for cash or high end insurance.
Not at all. According to Trump and the GOP themselves this was their #1 goal and they think it's why they were elected (its not - Comey and the Russians are probably the main reason).
This really could not be worse - in terms of everything from optics to reality. A poor bill not even agreed upon by the GOP Congress which the King was unable to keep alive.

These "free market" types are just posturing and shouting slogans. They dont really support what they claim they support once they realize what it entails. Thats generally the case for the vast majority of these types. They just hope that nothing will happen to them and ride their luck but when disaster strikes, they sing another tune.
They also don't seem to understand that healthcare is already sold on the free market. It's sold in the form of what s of the insurance companies, the for profit hospital corps, and big pharma. Providers have to compete with one another based on pricing to get the insurance contracts for the payers in their area.
Single payer is not the way to go, it is a way to increase taxes and control of of the people.
Universal health care is the only way to go...So what if your taxes increase a bit....Better to pay a few dollars more taxes, than thousands for health care....
You choose your own doctor. He, yourself and any required specialists and no one else consult on your care. There is no discussion of costs involved. No insurance company demanding more info delaying or outright denying your treatment plan.
The government's sole involvement is to reimburse all parties submitting bills to the system. That's why it's called single-payer.....
You are controlled by, worst still, whatever ability you might have to afford your level of needed care.

When you got 40 million dollars in your pocket for walking around money it makes you feel like everything is easy. When you compare the time and effort Barack Obama put into getting ACA passed to the time and effort Trump spent on his bill, it is embarrassing. And BTW he was also supposed to have a plan to defeat ISIS by now too.
