The Constitution of the United States of America, says all that is not needed or required for an individual to protect themselves. It isn't a privilege given to us by men and now women.
It is a right, no one can take away unless incarcerated or dead.
The problem isn't owning guns. I have a few, myself. It's the gun nuts who have so many of them, that cause the trouble. Those numb-skulls who equate freedom, with having the option (and inclination) for blowing holes in other living things.
Drive through northern New Jersey showing your gun and legal gun permit out your car window and see how long you last!
Easy solution: Do NOT go to New Jersey. If you live there, move.

Where I live, open carry is legal (but very few people do it these days), and a Concealed Carry Permit is easy to get. Basically, if you can buy a gun, you can get a CCP. It is said that the permit is only required within the City Limits of a municipality. That may be true, I'm not sure and don't care.
My GUESS is 99% of gun violence occurs with people who legally own one gun or people who have them illegally.
I'd say gun violence from someone with lots of legally obtained guns is exceptionally rare.
Most gun violence comes from people who are already prohibited from owning a firearm.
