Who ordered that aircraft carrier to Korea? I don't think Trump is a military minded person who is making military decisions. Is the military acting on its own without any interference from the white house? I wonder.
Other examples also. Sending troops to Syria recently for instance.
"The aircraft carrier and a US destroyer will conduct naval drills including an anti-submarine manoeuvre with South Koreans in waters off the Korean peninsula as part of the annual Foal Eagle exercise."
You mean the carrier on joint exercises with the South Korean navy? 'the military' is going to make thousands of decisions every day without the White House, just like they always have - you don't think Obama really had anything to do with getting Bin Laden do you? The Joint Chiefs consult the president, probably often, but they're going to make many decisions about national security on their own. It was probably the secretary of the Navy who ordered the carrier to Korea. They aren't going to consult with the president over every ship deployment.
I thought I read an article on FOX that they cut Trump out of the loop after the disastrous Yemen raid that killed Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Ryan Owens?
I think most deployments are decided by uniformed leadership, not by civilians. The SecDEF and branch secretaries basically only set the overall policy.

WASHINGTON — The White House is considering giving the Pentagon more independent authority to conduct counterterrorism raids as part of an effort to accelerate the fight against the Islamic State and other militant organizations, administration officials said on Thursday.
Such a step would allow military commanders to move more swiftly against terrorism suspects, streamlining a decision-making process that often dragged on under the Obama administration, frustrating Pentagon officials.
The White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, called the proposal “a philosophy more than a change in policy.” He said that “the protocol is not changing in terms of what has to be signed off,” but added that Mr. Trump believed “these are the experts in the field.”

That's more of lazy Trump passing the work and the buck. Take credit for successes and blame others for screw-ups.
tRUMP gave a military command a few days after taking office. It resulted in the controversial death of a Navy Seal. He and Ivanka (never mind why it wasn't Melania) went to Dover Airbase to meet the family. They would not meet with him.
A few days later, the WH gave the military more power to make these military moves without consulting with President Bonkers.
Hope so, since there's precious little leadership coming out of the White House.
