I'm with you on the privacy issue, but I certainly don't associate Republicans with civil libertarians (except when it comes to allowing firearms anytime, anywhere) or being privacy advocates. They come up with stupid slogans like "if you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't be worried" and "business shouldn't have to deal with all this bureaucracy" (even if the "bureacracy" is protecting consumers from having their rights violated).

Democrats aren't much better, though. Even though they haven't been as aggressive in pushing malfeasant legislation such as this, at least as frequently as modern day Republicans, they have culpability by wimping out in not pushing back against violations of privacy.

I loved the idea someone posted several pages back about buying and publishing the browsing data of the malfeasant legislators who have approved this bad law!

Somebody's started a gofundme fund drive to purchase all the senator's internet search histories. It's already in the six figures. Sounds like an awesome way to screw these people over for being so short sighted.

It's been posted pages back. I hope that it goes through, and the creator doesn't commit suicide by shooting himself in the back of the head, twice.

It's fun to watch the George Orwell Party come out of the woodwork to apologize for this.

Why didn't this get as much coverage and as many questions asked by the media as did Transgendered bathrooms?

This is one thing all Americans should be up in arms about. These companies are no worse than a sexual predator preying and leeching onto it's victim, and now they have free reign to obtain ways to give out the candy they now know you like.

I'm repulsed by this move by congress.

The "populist" president has struck again and signed this malfeasant legislation.

And just to show this isn't "fake news" as some of his apologists would claim, I'm citing a GOP favorite network*:

http://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/...egulation.html

*I'd be skeptical of both parties willigness to putting private corporate interests ahead of citizens, but in this case, it was the GOP who really screwed up with a vote right down party lines.

Disgusting. But not unexpected.

Very little coverage about this story, too. Terrible all around.
