There was a great line in JD Vance's "Hillbily Elegy" about working class Whites talking a lot about hard work but one third of prime age people in their group don't work anywhere. When you look at places like Eastern KY where 20% to 25% of the total population gets SS disability it drains the labor pool which makes it hard to get new jobs, so the cycle continues. Both of my parents were from counties in rural KY with tons of people on disability. Many people in my family once they hit 50 just keep applying until they get it. There are law firms that specialize in SS disability appeals. Based on geographic disparities it's obvious that getting approved is far easier in some places than others, which isn't fair.

Why do you suppose people over fifty are exempt from work requirements for food stamps?

Do you think it is easy or even possible for many over fifty to find employment. They cannot find work, get welfare or health insurance. They may be disabled from years of physical work and many health issues begin to appear around that age - often multiplied. Many people truly disabled are required to hire disability lawyers due to the complex and unfair process.

Let's talk about young people getting on disability to never have to work a day or having baby after baby to get maximum benefits.

You are correct! I don't know the answer, but to ask others to pay for this.......is that the answer? Disability is not part of SS or Medicare, possibly add in a new wage withholding. One group of people who never seem to get any benefits are the self-employed.

Clinton ran on retraining coalminers........as if many are wanting to go to college at 50 or so.....think about it! Infrastructure building is not what the government should be involved in. Health Insurance is what she already pushed through as ACA aka ObamaCare, as Pelosi called it, and it is failing all around.
In exchange for funding Obamacare and raising the debt limit, Mitch McConnell received a $2 Billion kickback for his stateā€

Free Stuff......all the FREE stuff Hillary ran on.

Free College......Mrs. Clinton's New College Compact provides for tuition-free community college. Books are included, too. Paid for by the "community." And you are in the community. So pay up. Meantime, former college students can refinance their loans at favorable rates, while future ones get low-interest loans. The whole plan costs $350 billion over 10 years. Oh, what's a third of a trillion dollars in the long run?

Free Daycare...........What she calls "universal pre-school" is just a way to ensure that the government is paying for the daytime activities of everyone from the ages of four until ā€” including the free college ā€” 22 years old. One day, youā€™ll be taken care of by the government every year of your life, but for now that has to wait.

More FREE Health Care........The subsidies provided by Obamacare arenā€™t quite doing it, since insurance companies are being forced to jack up their rates, so Hillary plans to put more money in your pocket with a tax credit of up to $5,000 per family. This will offset "a portion of excessive out-of-pocket and premium costs above 5 percent of their income," according to the plan. And Clinton wants to provide an Obamacare "public option" ā€” that is, a government-run, taxpayer-funded insurance company that will end all the fuss about rate increases.

Free Family Leave.........The original idea of the Family and Medical Leave Act was to allow workers to take up to 12 unpaid weeks of leave to care for a newborn or a sick relative. Now, under Clinton, the time away will be paid, at a rate of two thirds of salary. This will be done by making the wealthy pay their "fair share" ā€” i.e. taxing them ā€” according to Mrs. Clinton, because as you know, most wealthy people found their money underneath a tree. And so itā€™s fair for those who didnā€™t get to the tree first.

Free Money from Employer.......... Mrs. Clinton advocates increasing the minimum wage to $12 an hour, which will provide some people with free private sector money but cost others their jobs as employers cut costs to pay for it.

This is a good one.....do you think she has any idea how much it cost to set up an apartment with solar power and why do low income people need Solar panels?
Free Solar........Yup. Hillary wants to "overcome barriers that prevent low-income and other households from using solar energy," according to her proposal.

Free Social Security........At a time when the retirement system is headed toward bankruptcy, Mrs. Clinton wants to give people "credit" in their benefit calculation for time they took off to serve as "caregivers."

Free Political Donations...........Thatā€™s right. We saved the best for last. Hillary wants you to be able to donate someone elseā€™s money to your favorite political candidate. She promises to press for legislation that provides public "matching funds" for small donors. One bill in Congress would throw in six times the amount you donate.

Since Democrats get more small donations, conservatives will be donating to liberals! So they will have the power to provide more ... free stuff.

I look at that list and think it's far preferable to giving disability to almost 10% of West Virginia or giving subsidies to farmers. Talk about free stuff! Those are not investments, that's lost money. The top five states receiving Disability are West Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi. Guess who pays for that? We who work and pay the bills. It is something we are especially reminded of at tax time, seeing all that money spent while five states in the South are the top recipients of Disability.
  • Giving free college means the people willing to put in the work of earning a degree are more likely to generate income and pay taxes, thus they are contributors to society.
  • People who got Medicare Part D didn't contribute a penny when it started, that was just FREE STUFF. I saw no seniors protesting that at all.
  • Giving someone a temporary reduced pay should a child or elder parent become seriously ill, is recognizing we are humans and sometimes a member of the family becomes seriously ill.
  • Healthcare? Sorry, I believe everyone should have a basic level of health care. There is no reason why seniors should get unlimited health coverage, two thirds of which is paid for by working people, while those same working people, struggle to get coverage for themselves.
  • Preschool? We have other grades, why is that not "babysitting"? Early childhood development results in the best outcomes.
  • Alternative energy sources? Excellent. The number one energy source in Washington state is hydro. Let Appalachia burn coal if they want, just keep it away from the West that wants to breathe.
  • Minimum Wage? By all means, let red states get rid of the minimum wage. In fact, let red states get rid of the minimum wage in exchange for ending Disability as a benefit. Win-win!

Spot on. This lawyer had a judge and a doctor on the payroll to help him get more people in Kentucky on Disability.

It is a HUGE problem with civil servants in the NYC/Long Island area. Mainly abused by italian or irish cops. I don't hear about or have seen cases with other whites or people who weren't white. But there are plenty of stories of them getting a fat disability check while moving to Florida and getting a second job.

They hear what they want or only listen to the barkers on fox and right wing sources. If they fired up a cpl brain cells they might actually find her platform would benefit them greatly. Instead they voted for a con artist who promised them the moon with no details or plans. Just slogans and who to hate. Worked like a charm and the lemmings will go to Nuer graves blaming others while voting against thier own interests

Of the rest, I would say few are "college material."

So what is there outside of disability benefits?
They would have to get a job and move, and/or possibly go back to school for a year or two. The problem is there isn't a lot of desk jobs in the areas that they live then secondly, they've never done that type of work.

The govt doesn't make them do any of this thus you're going to see a certain percentage of people just milking it.

However if you want to get technical about it since inner city people have more access to community colleges and desk jobs you would have to question why so many people in urban areas are milking the system.

They're never going to do anything about rural people on disability milking it because it would blow up the whole system. This is what people don't get.
and they aren't going to touch the inner cities because the Democrats rely on them for votes.

In essence nothing is going to change so go to Friday happy hour and forget about it

How would making these people get off of disability "blow up the system"? I don't want to support them and Disability is federally funded.

Even Trump's Budget Director wants to address the abuse of Social Security Disability.

"But we need to address things like Social Security disability, which you and I both know is one of the fastest growing and probably one of the most abused mandatory programs in the country.”

IMO, I don't think this is a new thing --- disability started ballooning and becoming the 'new' unemployment with the 2008 downturn. As soon as the economy (finally!) turns up, disability will take a downturn. This is not news, nor rocket-science.
