every year has at least one month that is low
march 2015 ..only 86k jobs added (low for the year)
may 2016....only 43k jobs added (low for the year)

It's one month. But if the White House wants to own last month's numbers, they have to own this month's too.
At this point we don't have much data on Trump. It may be just a blip, or it could be that businesses are starting to fear that not only will Trump not deliver, he'll make things worse.

To be fair, it may not mean anything, in the long term. But yeah, he's going to have to take credit for the bad if he wants credit for the good.
