In light of recent attacks, slanders, wars, murders, rapes etc., what do you think?

I think religion makes good people do bad things.

Should this be in the great debates section?

I think people want to be good but the nature of environment, society, religion and the desire for things like land, money, goods etc... drives many to be very bad.

Are humans innately good with the potential to do bad? Or innately bad with the potential to do good?

What reason is there to believe those conditions are mutually exclusive?

They're both, or neither. Not inherently good or bad, but have the potential for doing good or bad things.

Each of us has good and bad ingrained in our DNA. We are basically not too far removed from our cave man ancestors. What keeps us from doing bad things is our upbringing, our personal beliefs, and a little part of our brain that has compassion for others and that can tell the difference between right and wrong.

Circumstances can bring out the good or the bad in us without any notice. We have all seen people put their own lives at risk to save another, and we have also seen normally good people go off the deep end and do something unspeakable.

I think most of us keep our bad side in check , but the bad side is always under the surface.
