Maybe, but we all know celebrities can say all the hateful things they want as long as they're liberal. Just look at the hateful things Alec Baldwin has said.

I don't "follow" celebrities either, but you have to be living under a rock not to have heard about some of these things. Remember when Alec Baldwin left that nasty voicemail for his 11-year old daughter calling her a pig and saying she was just like her mom? Remember when he hit a photographer (who most likely deserved it) and calling him a f*g and all sorts of other derogatory terms?
These things were talked about on the evening news at the time. I sure as heck didn't read about it in some movie magazine as we used to call them when I was a kid.
The fact that she had stage IV cancer and Baio knew absolutely nothing about it tells us he was not close to Moran and knew nothing of what was happening in her life in the present. A person of class would have expressed his sorrow at the passing of someone he once knew a long time ago, wished her family well, and left it at that. But no one will ever accuse Baio of having class.
Regardless, think it was a classless thing to speculate on, since it was revealed that Erin was suffering from stage 4 cancer and in a lot of pain and suffering.

You disproved your own point. We all heard about Alex (the Liberal) Baldwin from mainstream media. The outrage was there. Other than this thread, and probably some B-grade cable entertainment shows, nobody is talking about Scott Baio. He's actually playing the "Conservative Hate Card".
Seems like any and all discussion about Baio's comments are the product of him saying something stupid, and then doubling down by trying to defend it by blaming it on fake liberal rage.
