Everyone knows the White House Correspondents Association dinner is broken. What started off decades ago as a stately formal celebration of the best of presidential reporting has morphed into a four-day orgy of everything people outside the Beltway hate about life inside the Beltway—now it’s not just one night of clubby backslapping, carousing and drinking between the press and the powerful, it’s four full days of signature cocktails and inside jokes that just underscore how out of step the Washington elite is with the rest of the country. It's not us (journalists) versus them (government officials); it’s us (Washington) versus them (the rest of America).
#1 Suggestion is that the President should skip it occasionally. Check for 2017
#6 Suggestion is that the WHCA should be audited. They take in over $500,000 per year and only award about $100,000 in Scholarships. They are a 501c non-profit that keeps the money and then touts their charity.
The primary problem lies less with the event—what’s wrong with a party, right?—than with the prominence and stature everyone in Washington has given this week. We’ve made our annual Superbowl a vainglorious self-celebration in a time when everyone outside the Beltway thinks we’re as ugly as it gets.

Last night they went over the top and they knew it. Is it really "funny" to call people in the President's Administration "Nazis"? Is it really funning to call the US Attorney General a Racist? Even the crowd hung their heads in shame. The Media has an even lower confidence rating than any Politician and they are blind to that.
They managed to Double Down on their horrible reputation and give the finger once again to the American Public. The Standing Ovation they gave themselves at the end of the Prom was Icing on the Cake.
Few minutes of fame based on hatred for Trump. Pay no attention to the desperate, talentless comedians like samantha bee, cast of snl, amy schumer, etc. Their act is not at all creative & looks like a temper tantrum & constant whining. Glad that Trump didnt show up. All these wasteful distractions in govt need to be cancelled as they have plenty of overdue tasks to accomplish & years of damage to be undone.
How is the WHCD a "wasteful distraction in government"? People are invited, not commanded to show up. And for those who think Trump has been treated badly by the press, oh ye of short memories, go back to newspapers in the late 1800s and early 1900s and read the political commentaries and look at the political cartoons about Presidents and various members of Congress. They make today's get-togethers look like a Ladies Aide tea social.
Trump simply didn't have the courage to show up. He can only function in a room with people who think everything he does is wonderful. Then, he childishly attacks the event, acting like a spoiled 9 year old.
Obama had his differences with the press, but he also realized that a free press is essential to our freedom. He also had the courage to stand up and take criticism, even poking fun at himself.
THAT is the difference between a man and a little boy.
I've always said that Trump is like a petulant bully.
He said the exact same things libs say about Trump everyday.
