USPS is one of the largest postal systems in the world. They deliver to almost every address in the country. They definitely aren't perfect, but you also can't send an envelope to rural Wyoming for under a dollar with FedEx or UPS.
Am I the only one that has noticed USPS consistently delivering packages late? UPS and FedEx seem to be getting it right.
What if we just let USPS die of natural causes? I'm talking about not keep putting it on life support. If they can't deliver mail and packages on time, what's the point of keeping it around?
I cannot figure out the disdain for the postal service. Why, because it's a government agency & that's it? I don't have issues with my mail, unless my regular carrier is off then sometimes the stand in bypasses my box & doesn't pick up my Netflix.
USPS sucks because they have no incentive to get better. I say let them die off. The fact that we waste money paying mailmen pensions also needs to go.

What's the problem with the postal service exactly?

Do you really think the USPS is doing well?
They're enormously inefficient, waste money on salaries and pensions, and are more often than not late. UPS and FedEx exist because USPS has egregiously poor service in most cases.

I do a lot of ordering from amazon prime. My mailman rings my doorbell before he leaves a package. If we're gone for more than a few days, he knows about it and puts it in a lockbox for me. UPS tosses it up the stairs then drives off, they stopped ringing the doorbell years ago, and I've had my packages misdelivered to neighbor's houses on occasion. I don't begrudge USPS their pensions. They're out there in all weather. And in rural America, sometimes the mailman can be their only human contact for days.
The USPS is a godsend for those of us who live in the country, or who are elderly and may not be able to get out and drive to FedEx or UPS to send something (assuming either is close by, which they are not, here). I leave all my outgoing bills in the mailbox for the carrier to pick up, which is extremely handy. I've never had any outgoing mail stolen or destroyed. My carrier brings heavy packages to the door and will slide them inside, even if she has to practically swim through my flooded front yard after a heavy rainstorm. UPS and FedEx chuck them on the steps, bang on the front door, and drive away! So yes, the USPS is great for our small community.
