So just something I am curious about. We all know if a man is abusive towards a woman he is going to be looking at all kinds of issue with the justice system. My question is say a woman is abusive and while not likely she won't be able to do as much physical damage baring something such as a knife, gun etc. what if say a woman attacks her bf/husband scratching him, hitting him etc. do you think she should face the same kind of consequences, both in regards to jail/prison time as well as other consequences as a result?

Of course.

And if a woman hits a man first....I'm not so old fashioned -- if he hits her back...she should get the instigator penalty -- oops hockey reference.

Is this what we know, like the law, or what you think.
Because what I know is that it doesn't matter your gender if you are physically assaulted or in danger you, male or female, can file charges. Once charges are filed there will be a court date set. What happens next is up to the parties involved, the attorneys and the particular judge.

As far as I know she is. Generally depending on the extent of the violence, injury and threat/history punishment is either a misdemeanor or felony charge. If a misdemeanor one usually gets a fine, short jail time and/or a restraining order. If it is a felony charge there could be prison. As you said women generally dont cause much physical injury and are not a real threat so a woman may not get as severe punishment overall.

Well, you need to correctly assume their gender before I can say yes or no.
