Let's not forget NK sometimes takes Korean American hostages to use as bargaining chips.

Why would any American go to that country, knowing you're liable to be used for extortion?

Why is it okay for Bill Clinton to meet the leader of North Korea to get prisoners back but not Trump?

That's something a lot of people haven't noted. For instance, the execution of his uncle as "a traitor to North Korean interests" was a direct jab-in-the-eye to China because his uncle had been the primary DPRK contact with China.

Why would any American go to NK, knowing you're liable to be detained and convicted on trumped-up charges in order to extort something from the US?

Sometimes they go over the border and kidnap them, or kidnaps them from Japan or another third country.

When South Koreans do visit the north, it's usually to visit or locate family. A good many families were separated by the war. As that generation dies off, some become desperate to find those ties before it's too late. Such family bonds are not something Americans appreciate.

It didn't stop NK from taking more prisoners.

You'd have to ask them but in case you haven't noticed there are people being detained who went there willingly.

The claim was of Korean Americans being taken hostage. Any links to Americans being kidnapped from outside of NK?
