Amazing, the weight of women in general in the 1950s and 1960s compared to today.

I am sorry, but I can't even understand why people say women were miserable then compared to now.

I was in Florida a few years ago and the elderly women in Sarasota look much healthier then the majority of young women I see these days.

40% female now and 35% for males. It used to be similar.

I understand that people can be obese and medically healthy but it just seems so many women who are in their 20s and 30s already have severe obesity that is causing their health to fail with back issues, breathing issues and many other ailments that I doubt were common generations ago.

I have worked in call-centers before that a quarter of the women who are in their 20s are basically unable to move around the call-center and many can hardly breathe on the phone because of morbid obesity and not a respiratory condition that they would likely have if they were of normal weight.

Obviously people get ill or have a medical issue which is of no fault of their own but many call-centers ambulances are being dispatched to constantly as the exhaustion of talking is to much for some these younger women in their 20s.

The same centers will be very few if any obese men at all.

This doesn't take into considering the amount of men these days who are working in construction which has had a massive employment increase which keeps them in shape.

I also notice many state workers and school teachers suffer from obesity. I remember a few months, I walked into a coffee place and a couple dozen school teachers in their 20s and 30s were meeting and only a few were of less then obese weight.

Why is this in the political forum and not in the health one?

You seem very judgmental.

Also, your link requires a login. SMH.

I am not judgmental. I agree that many cases there are people who seem to live long lives who are overweight. I have had relatives who were likely considered obese who lived long lives.

I myself would rather have a BMI of 30 then a BMI of 18.

It just seems like so many young women sadly these days are just committing suicide by obesity.

I don't remember this gap in obesity in women and men in the 90s and 00s.

More Women Than Men Are Obese In America, And Gap Is Widening : The Salt : NPR

Why (and how) are women likely to be obese? | Canadian Women's Health Network

This says rich white women have the lowest obesity rates.

Poor men have lower obesity rates then poor women.

Again I ask, why did you post this in the political forum? This is a health topic.

You would rather have a BMI of 30 rather than 18? Neither one is healthy.

BMI can be quite misleading for some people. My BMI is 28 and I'm still pretty lean.

For most people though, a high BMI means you are fat.

It is very misleading because the standard BMI measurement doesn't take age and muscle mass into account, for the most part.

.
Many of the elderly women you saw in Sarasota are wealthy widows or divorcees. They can pay to stay younger looking--and they do.

You should have crossed the county line and checked out Bradenton or even Northport, where you would have seen many overweight men and women. Obesity is connected to income and wealth/poverty.

Why are women's obesity rates skyrocketing compared to men's that stable
I recommend taking a class on human biology.

Or just do some research into what Oestrogen does.

Because of it, women naturally have a higher body fat percentage than men. Their bodies burn through calories at a slower rate than men. Their bodies are also more efficient at processing consumed fats into fuel.

Then add "weight gain" being a side effect of many hormonal birth control options. When I went on birth control pills, my doctor recommended reducing my caloric intake by about 5-10% to curtail weight gain.

So add in the modern diet filled with excess calories and with higher amounts of fat content? Yep. Women are gonna definitely be obese at higher rates. It's really a no-brainer.
