This is where y'all are confused. We aren't stressed about it -- just made a passing comment that a dad playing golf on mother's day is not acceptable tradition. It just isn't.

I agree there. You are expected to be the mom without having the authority of a mom.

I think moms are great, biological or otherwise. The times I have to act like a mom while my wife is away makes me realize how hard it is.

But I also realize how some of these days are not just days people have genuinely embraced for the honoree's sake. Mostly it is corporate America wanting us to part with our money on jacked up overpriced items on that day.

The worst is Valentine's day. Roses jump from $12-15 a dozen to $50 or more. My wife and I agreed that roses are best bought the day after Valentine's day at 1/3 the price and I give a token gift on Valentine's day. Sometimes it is just me doing the cooking for lunch and dinner to give her a day of relaxation.
