A few weeks ago there were leaked stories from unnamed sources saying Trump was thinking about firing Bannon. These stories likely came directly from Trump. He's messing with his staff by putting out "unofficial" news stories about him possibly firing them. They know the stories are coming from him too. He's also trying to wag the dog and stop the Comey/Russia story from being the top news story.
He's obsessed with the media. He uses it to his advantage.
