8. Obama Hid The Certificate Because It Proves He Is A Muslim And/Or Named Barry Soetoro
Numerous conservatives thought they had discovered the real reason Obama would not release his long-form certificate: it might reveal he is Muslim.
This argument, recently popularized by Donald Trump during an appearance on The O'Reilly Factor (and subsequently hyped by Fox Nation), has been batted around on conservative websites for years.
Yes - the birther nonsense was certainly one of the bigger fake news stories of the last presidency. Why it went on for as long as it did, I'll never quite understand (well, of course, I know the real reason why - but still...insanity). I'm not sure I'd call it the biggest fake new story of the century, but it was certainly a big one.
The funniest part of it all is the implication that this was done in order to hide that he is a Muslim (which he very obviously is not...and doesn't strike me as religious in any way, if I'm honest).
As if being Muslim would mean that he wouldn't be allowed to be president (newsflash: it wouldn't matter)...

Those people (Trump especially) practically raised fake news to a high art. It rivals professional wrestling in it's faketitude (Have you heard of it? ... I just made that word up ...)
That so many ordinary folks were taken in by it (some still are) is a testimony to the lack of sophisticated judgment and prudence of the average Fox News/Alex Jones/Breibart consumer.
one would first have to assume that more than a couple dozen moron's actually bought into this for it to qualify as fake news, not unlike the CIA (or whoever) blew up the Twin Towers or the moon landings never happened.
