Why?

The russians have never made any attempt to do anything in any other election, but this election?

No, I don't. But there seems to be good work going on now.

I feel like we're in a new age of yellow journalism with the over reliance on anonymous sources which seem to be proven inaccurate or flat out wrong far, far too many times. My first reaction to news now is pure skepticism thanks to the atrocious track record of jounalists these days.

Anonymous sources are not just random people. They are almost always known and trusted by the writer, and their statements are often verified, if only by others who prefer to keep their identity private. There are many reasons why a person might choose to withhold their name from the public. Do you think the people who call anonymous tip lines to report crimes to the police offer their identities for publication?

I've been a reporter, although it was years ago, and there are very few who would risk their job and reputation on their own personal "Deep Throat" without a very good reason. People get fired for that kind of thing. If a reporter uses an anonymous source, you may be damn sure that in 99% of the cases, it's for a good reason.

Since when? Is America this blind?

So, no matter what happens, no matter if it's true or not, it's o.k. as long you are anonymous?

Lol anonymous sources.

If the source were to die then you'd know for certain there was indeed truth to the leak.

Look at Snowden for a prime example of whistle blowing the NSA.

How serious would anyone have taken that if it were from an anonymous source?
You'd shout fake news, or discredit it as tinfoil hat hogwash.
If he were to be found dead in an apartment with 2 gunshot wounds to the back of the head and ruled as the most predetermined suicide ever, then you would know for certain he spilled the beans on something the mass shouldn't have known about.

All points. When does it go to far for being "anonymous"?

Anonymous sources can be wrong and unreliable at times. I don't think anyone disputes that. But as a whole they provide a great service by exposing corruption, misfeasance, and myriad crimes which would go unnoticed and unreported. Putin and other autocrats do not target and kill journalists for no reason. They do not want to be exposed.
