The legislators used the media 's obfuscation of the McDonald's case to get all kinds of tort reform legislation passed. It was a win win for talk radio, the local airhead news and business. Talk about fake news!

The woman in the McDonald's case barely got her medical covered in the long run.

Maybe, finally the idiots will turn the burners down a little. Their coffee is ridiculously hot.

I did a short stint in a coffe shop, (not Starbucks) and we were told to heat it up to 180 degrees. I can't remember why, because I don't even drink coffee, I just did what they wanted, but there was a reason why.

Any time I do get a hot beverage from anywhere, (hot chocolate), I make sure to grab it by the lower half, never the top. You cannot rely on those lids to stay on. And the drink goes straight in to my cup holder, never in my lap.

Those drinks are way too hot and should not be served that hot, but we also need to watch how we are handling these cups of molten lava. I don't think a $66k settlement is worth all of those burns.

it's too hard for most of us to educate ourselves, better to just shoot from the hip and move on to the next ignorant narrative

The ideal temp, per some, is 175 degrees.

McDonalds was holding theirs much higher, 205, because at that temperature it could stay in the pot all day long without getting that stale old coffee taste. McDonald's ignored the industry standard.

They aren't supposed to do that. McDonald's has very specific guidelines for everything, and if I remember correctly, the hold time for coffee is no longer than 30 minutes, after which you throw it out. Food isn't supposed to sit under heat lamps longer than 15. I worked at a McDonald's briefly years ago, and the shift managers thought I was the worst PITA they ever saw, but the owners loved me because I refused to cut corners.

The holding at high temps was part of the trial testimony, IIRC.

Just because you think it is stupid due to ignorance, does not mean there is not reason for the rule.

An accidental spill should not result in 3rd degree burns.

The lady was taking the lid off when the coffee spilled all over her thighs and crouch. Anybody you know ever spill coffee? It should not result in skin grafts.
