Trump budget to cut Medicaid, food stamps -- put 'taxpayer first,' officials say | Fox News

"The White House plan leaves Social Security and Medicare untouched, but calls for $800 billion in cuts to Medicaid and a $193 billion reduction in food stamps over the next ten years."

"President Trump is calling for major cuts to Medicaid and food stamps -- alongside increases for national and border security -- as part of what administration officials call a "taxpayer-first budget" set to be released Tuesday."

We are no longer going to measure compassion by the number of people on those programs. We're going to measure compassion by how many people we can get off those programs,
According to Obama the economy was booming. If that were so we don't need such a huge amount for welfare and medicaid.

here you go, a left wing rag that says Obama's economy is booming.... Politico - "The president is handing his successor an economy that’s now the envy of the world."

How is helping the elderly and hard working people handing money over to the corporations and those who are already healthy?

Please explain.

A lot of elderly live on a low fixed income while food, has, medical, and housing costs keep rising.

Hard working families are taxed so high that they have to work more than 40 hours a week.
Thus taking them away from their spouse and children.
You do realize that hard working families aren't going to see much in the way of tax relief. The big cuts are going straight to the top. So basically, Trump is cutting life saving aid to the poorest of the poor in order to divert that money to the already engorged top one percent and to an already bloated military budget.

And for that, you mindlessly cheer.

How would this help the elderly specifically?

Is there going to be some new program that will cover nursing home costs now?

"Medicaid funds most long-term care for the elderly.
Care for the elderly ranks as Medicaid's second largest expense, tied with care for children (see below). The elderly make up just 9% of enrollees but 21% of Medicaid spending. Much of those costs go to long-term care, which Medicare generally does not cover."

.
IF those things are cut that would be bad.
But, we don't know if that area would be cut.
Within Medicare monies are allocated to certain areas.

There is a lot of wasted money in Special Education and in schools in general that could take a looking at.

Mental health care laws have always been bad, which is not good.

Again, we don't know as of yet if the two areas you mentioned will or will not be effected

The budget isn't going to pass anyway. Trump is an idiot and wouldn't know a national budget if it bit him in any body part. And Congress, the people who actually know what they're doing, would never pass this budget or anything close to this. Passing a budget with these kinds of domestic program cuts would be political suicide for them.

I get it some of you may be threatened that your safety net of freee things will be gone should you choose to not work hard.

They are cutting not taking it all away.

There are a lot of people who use all handouts to live so they do not have to work.
So they can have children without getting married first and have a savings established to raise children.
Their frame of mind is they deserve it. A lot of people are Messed up this way.

How do you think the budgets got so big in the first place that need to be looked to be cut?
I'm say it's because abuse in the welfare system.

President Trump and/or his administration isn't the first to tackle the gross amount of money put into these areas.
