The owners downfall was internet reaction to an interview where one said:

"I picked the brains of every tortilla lady there in the worst broken Spanish ever, and they showed me a little of what they did.. "They told us the basic ingredients, and we saw them moving and stretching the dough similar to how pizza makers do before rolling it out with rolling pins. They wouldn't tell us too much about technique, but we were peeking into the windows of every kitchen, totally fascinated by how easy they made it look. We learned quickly it isn't quite that easy."

"The problem, of course, is that it's unclear whether the Mexican women who handed over their recipes ever got anything in return. And now those same recipes are being sold as a delicacy in Portland.

A spreadsheet of “white-owned appropriative restaurants” in Portland has since been created that includes many restaurants in the city, with recommendations for nearby alternatives owned by people of color.

A good variety of authentic ethnic restaurants is the only tangible benefit of diversity most cities can point to. So I guess it makes sense for those who care about the narrative to come down hard on white people who are successful in that area.

I live in the area. Most of my friends are liberals.

None of us care. We do like good food though.

Just wondering if I should get mad at the Hispanic person who owns the steak house that is preparing my prime rib for appropriating my white culture?

Plus you're appropriating bovine culture by eating cow.

You need sensitivity training.

Make sure you check the background of the owner of the Mexican restaurant you go to. Don't want you to find out it is owned by a Guatemalan and be vilified.

Of course, this is ignorance disguised as progressivism. This has been going on for generations. What we think of as "pizza" may have its roots in Italian cuisine, but it's an American creation. That's innovation, not appropriation, and guess what? They serve it in Italy too now.

The creator(s) of this spreadsheet are misguided and racist themselves.
