It isn't just a Chicago issue. It's an AMERIKKKA issue. People see brown skin, assume "African" ancestry, assume you must have been:

Born and raised in the damn ghetto
Born or raised out of wedlock
Be stupid and "can't do Math"
Gone to sub-par inferior schools in the aforementioned ghetto
Have out of wedlock kids yourself (if you're female)

and yada yada yada, and so on, and so forth. The minute they see the colour of your skin "darker than a paper bag."

And yes, I'm going by the questions people ask me when they see me, as to my assumption that they've assumed ghetto-trash. The damned SURPRISE when I speak the Queen's English. The SURPRISE that I went to GOOD schools. The SURPRISE that I have more than one college degree, and a law degree, and not from Southern "black" schools at that. Their damned SURPRISE at my lack of either an uneducated-ghetto or Southern "accent."

(I've been thinking, there HAS to be some underlying overall REASON why I get asked "where you from originally" the minute I open my mouth so goddamned much these days, and it can't be JUST because I'm in "the Heartland" where people are overwhelmingly uneducated racist morons. It CAN'T be JUST the geographic area because it really started the minute I left for college, back in 1989!!)

I can tell by those kinds of questions and surprise at my answers, what people must have been assuming about me because I've been getting more and more "where the hell did that come from?!" with people lately. And their answers are always along the lines of "we thought you were Black" sort of rubbish. And all that goes with THAT.

So, therein lies the problem. Brown skin, on any race that people can think "looks Black," gets hit with automatic assumptions that are all uneducated-ghetto based. Even Philippinos with dark skin, Latinos with dark skin, and my fellow Native Americans like the Navajo and the Ute, get this.

It would help if ALL Americans and Canadians would just stop assuming that brown skin equals stupidity, and that lifestyle and culture that they're all thinking "must" go along with the colour of one's skin. My lifestyle, upbringing, education, and way of life, apparently, to Americans and Canadians, "belong with" WHITE skin, not brown. And THAT is where the problem needs to be FIXED.

Oh please how long did it take for the Irish to finally become white?

What about the Chinese, hell they were the Great Yellow Peril in 1875 and it took them damn near until the 1980's to become white.

The same can be said for Italians, and other immigrant populations to this racially and ethnically tolerant(sic) nation.

So here we are a mere 50 years after nationwide discrimination both de jure and de facto, with an African American president, Attorney General, the second Supreme Court Justice and you have the temerity to argue that as a people African Americans have not succeeded because of an entitlement culture?

Seriously!?!

When 3/4s of White people DON'T have a single friend of color, it is my belief that the last folks on the planet earth who have the right to analyze what problems exist or don't exist in the African American population are white people.

White is a color.
