Every American who agrees with Merkel should trade any car bigger than a small Sedan for a small Sedan and make sure to recycle all garbage and donate money to the IRS. Perhaps also take some refugees into their own home and then we can say that they do as the preach.
May you could do some research for us and inform us .
I don't understand why liberals are complaining about this, seeing as how they always say that we shouldn't be the world police or be involved in other countries.
To prentend the US is spending vast amounts and the rest of NATO are freeloaders is nonsense, ....
Hmm Nope. The facts speak for themselves.
NATO expenditures in 2016....
USA = $664B
Germany = $40B
France = $43B
All of Europe including Turkey = $238B
i.e. The USA is paying for 73% of the cost of NATO. Yet it's primary purpose is to protect Europe. Europe is benefiting greatly at the expense of the US taxpayer.
If you think NATO expenses means we are sending them money, then it would mean Europe sends us fives times more money than we send them (79%).

In large part, these figures represent purchases of military equipment. The Europeans will never contribute what we feel they should in terms of military expenditures, because they view the way the United States spends money on the military as extremely wasteful (e.g., building and deploying missiles that cost $2 million each instead of $50,000 each).
The United States spends what it does on the military largely to support a robust defense industry that represents a large part of our economy and employs a lot of people. In contrast, in Europe, China, and Russia, the governments are focused on developing and deploying weapons systems that deliver the best bang for the buck (e.g., 90% of the performance for 10% of the cost).
If Germany for decades has refused to meet its obligations that they agreed to - while the US has met all of its obligations to Germany and poured in more money than we agreed to ---- I find it odd that you are questioning if the US is the "reliable ally" when Europe is not even reliable enough to meet mild expectations that they agreed to.
I guess "Germany over America" is the new mantra of the American left.
I should have added a "sarcasm" tag, such as </sarcasm>. The post is now so edited.

.........and the US has the most to lose .
