So you do think that the U.S. should be the world police? All right, we'll hold you to that when the next Iraq War comes along.

And why can't the rest of Europe defend themselves from Russia? Why is this our job?

Hmm Nope. The facts speak for themselves.

NATO expenditures in 2016....

USA = $664B
Germany = $40B
France = $43B
All of Europe including Turkey = $238B

i.e. The USA is paying for 73% of the cost of NATO. Yet it's primary purpose is to protect Europe. Europe is benefiting greatly at the expense of the US taxpayer.

If you think NATO expenses means we are sending them money, then it would mean Europe sends us fives times more money than we send them (79%).

In large part, these figures represent purchases of military equipment. The Europeans will never contribute what we feel they should in terms of military expenditures, because they view the way the United States spends money on the military as extremely wasteful (e.g., building and deploying missiles that cost $2 million each instead of $50,000 each).

The United States spends what it does on the military largely to support a robust defense industry that represents a large part of our economy and employs a lot of people. In contrast, in Europe, China, and Russia, the governments are focused on developing and deploying weapons systems that deliver the best bang for the buck (e.g., 90% of the performance for 10% of the cost).

I guess "Germany over America" is the new mantra of the American left.
I should have added a "sarcasm" tag, such as </sarcasm>. The post is now so edited.
