You should read what I said here better. I have repeatedly said its about massive unemployment from technological change, and indicated now is NOT the time. I pay above average in taxes for a American, and work hard. Theres nothing "leech" about me.
But I see this as a result of change, not the driver of it. Think about that before ignoring the discussion. Its about people being unable to be employed because simply put-technology does it all better.
Meanwhile you come in, and just start insulting instead of thinking.
I'm really trying to understand what are you going to do when there is 20-30% unemployment and hunger riots are starting to spread all over the country, while, I'm reminding you, there are millions of firearms in the hands of the citizens.

It won't happen anytime soon, and especially not for local drivers like myself, OTR is the most likely candidate to be automated first

They aren't thinking that far ahead.
Think of just self-driving vehicles and if they are perfected - how many industries are out of business right there?
Including major insurance companies who are seeing the need for millions of employees like claim adjusters becoming obsolete. Sales agents are becoming more and more obsolete with online sales.
It's all pointing to some form of UBI in the future.
70% of our GDP is from domestic spending. Once we hit a certain level of unemployment, its basic income or complete collapse. This absolutely should be discussed, and looked at for implementation if expectations of future massive unemployment and increased output come about.
As a libertarian the whole concept makes my head explode. But I agree that this will have to happen at some point. There will be huge social ramifications to this. Some will have the time to pursue their dreams but others might just pursue alcohol.
