Our country/world is "people"; people have always had conflicting views; even people living under the same roof. CD is a prime example.

We have been united in common purpose in our history (liberty and freedom), but this is no longer a "common" purpose for all and so no... we can not be united. The US is at odds not with its principals, but with usurpers who no longer find liberty and freedom to be the focus.

Division says, "It's not your fault. It's because of the Jews/Mexicans/Blacks/Gays/Muslims/Liberal Snowflakes/whatever." That's a pretty nice story - it absolves the voter of all personal responsibility.
Which candidate wanted us to all get along?

Would it be the one calling a large swath of the country deplorables?

Trump calls the media fake news and is often openly hostile to Democrats. That's not unity.
The main stream media is fake news and he doesn't attack all Democrats - only those who blatantly lie and push their liberal agenda using said fake news and "sources" who leak (questionable) information illegally. Many progressive liberals ARE trying to destroy America and you have to ask yourself why do they want to do that. The constitution and existing laws don't apply to them it seems.

The fact of the matter is that Trump is fighting against all politicians and corrupt government, fake news, AND faced with a collapsing rigged economy at the same time. The man does not get enough credit IMHO. He could certainly be more politically correct but that's not his style.

As far as violence is concerned - it's the left that's violent. The party of understanding and caring is anything but when they are faced with the fact that their scam funding/support mechanisms (vote buying mechanisms) are under scrutiny.

Let's make this marriage work again... even though the wife has two black eyes, a concussion, and three broken ribs, and even though the husband narrowly avoided having the wife slit his throat and his nads have been aching for a week after she whacked him dead center with the point of an iron. But sure, we can patch things up.

As for me, I suggest we get a divorce before we kill each other. Toxic marriages do not work.

Or "because of the middle-age white male." Or "'Murica." Or "Rednecks, hicks, etc." You conveniently forgot to mention them as being scapegoats. Or did you just mean to let your bias show in a post attempting to convey just the opposite?

You don't. There is no uniting under your peoples banner. You are socialist/communists and your ideology is the bane of liberty and freedom. There is no "unity" between us, only your demand we subjugate ourselves to you.
+1.

The old "You can be my friend as long as you do what I say" schoolyard line.

Trump is the most divisive person to enter politics we've ever had in this country! He claims to want to unite us but all he really wants to do is destroy the nation and rebuild it in image of Trump Industries. One example is how he wants us to unite around destroying the invironment, the safety of our water and our food chain, our national parks, The Great Lakes, etc. etc. He wants to destroy the constitution and three branches of government to unite behind him as a dictator. Wake up, OP! We cannot unite behind a self-centered egoistical man who is destroying what has always been America's best qualities and assets, who wants to shut down the free press and ignore the rule of law.

I don't think it is going to happen.

TOO many people play the politicians and media game of divide and conquer.

Just buy into his words, as it's what good salesman can do to people. You misspelled the word you were looking for. Trump isn't trying to unite the nation, he's trying to untie it.
