That was a darn interesting article. I had not known about this.
How will Congress respond? How will they react to the proposal that the Federal government may help dig itself out of the deficit hole by screwing four Republican states?
Will this truly benefit 'all Americans'?
I shall watch developments with considerable interest.
Where does all that money from the Feds go? For example in the article one of the reasons to give the gulf states money is that they can see oil rigs from their beaches and in case of a spill they would have money to clean up yet BP gave them billions when their oil rig exploded and dumped all that oil into the gulf.
I wonder if the gulf states have bank accounts that they keep this money in just in case another spill happens or have they spent it on other things?
The thing is with most things Trump the headlines that garner the outrage only tell half the story but it is enough to get people upset and those same people seldom read down the article or bother to read another that highlights why this might be a good thing for America.
Revenue sharing is capped at 500 million dollars per year, states get 37.5% of offshore oil revenue. On first glance, this isn't the most expensive federal program, and states in the Gulf Coast have suffered when there are oil leaks. The maps show Alabama has a sort of weird number of set asides and cut outs, maybe that could be fixed (not to hurt Alabama, but the revenue sharing map around Alabama is a mess). Lets hope this is discussed in more detail by the administration.
You forgot to mention the part of that article where Obama tried to do exactly the same thing.
I went back to the article to check. Here is the paragraph:
"President Barack Obama proposed funneling royalties to programs that protect natural resources. The House of Representatives last year adopted an amendment from Byrne, the Alabama congressman, that blocked the move."
So, not exactly the same thing, but I think the bottom line was the same, stop sharing the oil royalties with the four states. I doubt, if this occurs, that any of the money would go to protecting natural resources.
You forgot to mention the part of that article where Obama tried to do exactly the same thing.
Obama "doing the same thing," would simply be him living up to what Conservatives already thought of him anyways. But if Trump does it, then the constituents get backstabbed...
