FYI : America has a republican form of government in which the American people have creator endowed rights that government was instituted to secure (see: Declaration of Independence, 1776). . . and do nothing more without consent of the governed - the folks who waived those endowed rights to life, liberty, etc, etc. (see: end of DoI, where Founders pledged their lives, fortunes, yada yada to serve the people - which explains mandatory civic duties, like militia duty {“the draft”})
...
So far no administration violated endowed rights of those who retained them, thus is in full compliance with the republican form.
As for the vast majority who have surrendered them, via consent to the democratic form and voluntary socialism : SHUT UP, SIT DOWN, PAY AND OBEY.
. . . thank you . . .

Let's try again -- sometimes repetition is a good way to make people udnerstand.
When Bette Middler said men -- she didn't mean mean as the male gender -- she meant men as in humanity.
Sometimes when we say something like MAN against NATURE. We don't really mean it has to be a man. We mean all humans. Sometimes people will use MEN as the collective for all humans.
MEN & RELIGION have been dangerous partners throughout history.....Can we all not agree on that one!
I meant my comment in an off the cuff fashion. I'm actually sorta sad that people conflate the far left progressives with Liberals because true classic liberalism is good stuff. I think all of our terms are sliding around and aren't meaning as much as they used to mean. You've got people under the banner of liberalism trying to block free speech at college campuses, the very hot bed of higher learning and expanding and should be a place where fair minded people can exchange ideas and discuss things. Now it's rioting and shutting down people who have countering views.
It's sad, but it's not the point of this thread, we need to walk it back to ol' Bette and her man hatin. LOL.
Fair enough. I agree; our use of the word liberal has become misleading. While I think the presumed mainstream of both major parties can be described as liberal (the Republican party being largely classical liberal and the Democrats a more modern variant of liberalism; it's like comparing Catholics to Protestants), many people who say they are liberal are not. In the same way, many conservatives are not actually conservative. Somewhat ironically, they're actually liberal. But they apparently hate liberals. They also think liberals and socialists are the same thing... which really doesn't make any sense.
Our society could do a better job of being politically literate.
I usually try not to let an entertainer's personal beliefs and practices change my opinion of them. However, I could never watch another Woody Allen movie after, you know.
There really aren't a lot of arguments against what she said. Religion? Can't think of anything more worthless. Men, not worthless, but to date 99.99% of terrorism is driven by the ideas and actions of men.
Also, we should give people like Bette Midler and semi-retired entertainers a long leash. If you're a man an you take offense to what she said, then you really need to put down your purse and lighten up.
