Well someone was just arrested for giving that classified info to The Intercept. Either NSA has a habit of making up fake up reports for their own sh&ts-n-giggles, and the gov't is fake news-ing the charges against this woman, or this was a real event and she's being prosecuted for bringing it to light.
The leaker, a veteran and contractor, was sloppy about the leak. It was easy enough to figure out who had downloaded and printed the document. The leaker has been arrested and charged.
So they attempted to hack the election. The fact that it is reported as "attempted" pretty much means it failed or they would be stated it is a fact.
Our country get's cyber attacked 50,000 times a day. Be thankful we have protocols out there to protect us from it.
It's the thought that counts.
They were successful getting into the DNC server although not so much for actually polling machines. Someone needs to explain why we are returning their US compounds in light of their actions.

The story is real - some details may not be completely in place yet, but this young woman, for reasons known only to her, decided to steal the report and pass it along.
Many here are missing the significance of this incident. By doing this, Reality Winner tipped the Russians off as to just what our government knew about their tactics. Had she kept her mouth shut, surveillance and investigation of Russian shenanigans directed towards our electoral system and our government could have continued unimpeded, and more information would have been learned, most likely.
So - one of two likely motivations on Ms. Winner's part: either she naively thought she was being a true American patriot, and this side-effect of her bean-spilling never occurred to her - or this was done to benefit the Russians.
From her Facebook account, Ms. Winner appears to have been a Bernie supporter and something of an activist in various anti-Trump causes. I find it difficult to believe she reached her level of government employment and trust without being thoroughly schooled on security concerns, but evidently, that's what happened - or she was a poor scholar, or else this was done deliberately, for one of the two reasons cited above. My guess is that naivety and immaturity played huge roles in Ms Winner's actions. She's a bright girl - but none too wise in the ways of the international political world, it appears, and she does not to have considered ramifications of her actions beyond the immediate.
What should be done with her now? Ten years' sentence seems harsh, if this was done as stupidly as it appears. But Reality Winner (you just can't make this stuff up) should never, ever work in government at any level again, and her eyes should be opened - somehow - to the implications of what she has done.
