Let me get this straight: you think it's unfair that poor people get a discounted rate, but it's OK for you to literally steal?
That is what he just said, isn't it? You know, all those low income people are stealing from the rest of us routinely. But since he isn't one of THEM, HIS theft is A-okay.
This seems to be the prevailing sentiment among many posters. Poor people are such convenient scapegoats.
"On Tuesday, the behemoth announced a 45% discount to its Prime membership for those on food stamps. Anyone who has an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card can join Amazon Prime for $5.99 per month rather than $10.99. "
I hate Wal-mart... everyone knows that. But Wal-mart doesn't charge me more for an item just because it can. When Amazon starts mean testing (which is what this is) it's time to leave Amazon. You want to give away profit (which is something you don't show on your balance sheet anyway Amazon) donate food and items on your dime to those who need it. I find that highly commendable. But don't make me subsidize someone else's streaming video, fidget spinners, and literature (Amazon's three most sold items!). This really irritates me this morning.....
Well, I'm one of those liberals and I don't see why anyone needs to order anything from Amazon except food. If they let people with food stamps order food and have it delivered, that's fine. If the person has to join Prime to get the food, fine. Give them a discount. But not for the other junk like streaming that no one really even needs.
Elderly people on food stamps often can't drive to get to a grocery store so this would be wonderful for them. I know a few disabled people on food stamps who can drive (one has MS and is in a wheelchair but can drive) and I bet it would make his life easier if Amazon delivered food to him.
I can't afford/don't need Amazon so I won't quit my membership.
Cool! I can get my flatscreen tv shipped to me cheaper!
Not really. My family and I WERE on food stamps, but I'm proud to say that I got a higher paying job and no longer receive them.
Classy. The only time anyone uses the term "flatscreen TV" is when they're trying to shame for people for having them. Do they even make cathode ray tube televisions anymore? I guess people don't deserve any sort of televisions. Especially the poor people who work 40 hours a week at Walmart, but still receive food stamps.

Shopping is difficult for people in many areas without cars. Amazon prime is a lot cheaper than transportation. With the exception of food and clothing, and by just about everything on prime. That includes things like diapers and cleaning supplies.
From Amazon's own site: "Amazon Fresh is a grocery delivery and pickup service available exclusively to Prime members."
So you cannot get Prime Fresh unless you are an Amazon Prime member.
Again why do EPT recipients need fresh veggies delivered to their door. Were there multitudes of EPT precipitants starving because they couldn't get fresh veggies at the local market?
I would like fresh veggies delivered to my door too. Sometimes it is difficult to get to the market , because I work so much but I cant afford that service because I have to pay for my food so I have to sometimes use caned or frozen vegetables .

I'm a SAHM mom. We have one car. At one point we were on food stamps. Stuff like this would definitely help with groceries

I like Amazon and have the Prime thing but I try and buy from Best Buy when I can or my local bookstores.
One thing Amazon is really good for is harder to find nutritional items, vitamin, herbal, and mineral supplements. One example is Manuka Honey which has to come from New Zealand originally since that's where it is made.
Private businesses have their own right to set up their own rules (as long as they are legal)
If you don't want their services, well, don't sign up. It is really that simple.
