Fascism may be associated with the right but some elements of the left use fascist type tactics to suppress opposing viewpoints, i. e. bullying, violence, intimidation, speech control, censorship, etc. Some people who use these tactics consider themselves "progressives".

All of which require the expansion of the use of coercive power in the hands of an over-centralized government, in order to force the arbitrary beliefs of an elitist few upon the many, and all in the name of a supposed "greater common good" defined by that elite few.

You have every right to your own opinion; just don't recruit a gang of thugs to force it upon those of us who don't see things exactly as you do.

A Liberal

At Evergreen State College in Washington, the dangerous authoritarian streak of college-aged, left-wing extremists is being exposed in disturbing detail.

So why are these left-wing extremists attacking one of their own liberal comrades? The answer is simple: they are not liberals. They are illiberal, left-wing fascists.

These so called “activists” are not interested in dialogue — one of them said exactly that in a video of their confrontation. They are only interested in their political agenda being enacted at all costs, without any negotiation with dissenters. To me, that mentality is inherently illiberal and undemocratic. It is close enough to fascism to warrant use of the label “fascist” at this point.

Then they aren't liberal. Sound like right wing fanatics. Yes.

Let us use a definition that is not a political talking point shall we?

Merriam-Webster Definition of Fascism

early instances of army fascism and brutality — J. W. Aldridge
I think that about sums up the progressive and it explains why Wilson and FDR were big fans of Mussolini.

It is more commonly "legitimately" associated with the left. It is propaganda pushed by the left that claims it is the right.

Yes, it is.

That's where the OP fails.

"For Fascism, society is the end, individuals the means, and its whole life consists in using individuals as instruments for its social ends." - Alfredo Rocco, Mussolini's Minister of Justice, speaking at Perugia, August 30, 1925

"The higher interests involved in the life of the whole...must set the limits and lay down the duties of the interests of the individual." -Hitler, speaking at Bueckeburg, October 7, 1933

Both are describing socialism, which is left-wing. Both are advocating subjucating the individual to benefit the collective society. That is NOT right-wing ideology.

The word "fascism" includes fascis as its root. The meaning is "bundle" and it is used to represent collective power. Collectivism. It's left-wing at its very roots.

Recent Example: Taking down the confederate statues is akin to burning books, in my opinion. Trying to whitewash history.
