No hypocricy there. Difference is that dems tend to be for a LOT of laws, a whole massive mess of a web of laws. Some of which are unneeded laws, or poorly thought out, or not properly enforced. Conservatives believe in far less laws, but that the laws that DO exist better be good ones, that are fully enforced.
You need to stop watching Faux Fake News and listening to the addict you are incorrect, the GOP wants MORE laws to control a person's life.
Private companies can provide for such information and action, you don't need government to achieve protection in this.
You ever hear of the Underwriters Laboratories and American National Standards Institute? These are private organizations that seek standards and quality certifications. They exist outside of government and yet they exist to protect the consumer.
You do realize government does nothing that private can not do, and do better?
UL and ANSI are basically industrial consortium groups. They provide a very useful rule but would never get near even attempting to discover that lead paint was damaging children or cigarettes causing cancer. They deal with knowable immediately recognizable hazards but the long term effect of things is not in their charter. And they do not always require the best approach. The UL and the US requirement for wiring of homes is well inferior to that of Europe. Cheaper but less safe. That was the choice made by the industry not the consumer. We have done a good bit of fixing with things like GFI...but that is because we started with the wrong system.
And actually the government can simply pay for what it wants from private enterprise. But you cannot let private enterprise define the specification when it comes to safety and the environment. Their conflict is apparent and not resolvable. They are a creature to make profit which may well be in conflict with make it safe.

Rat poison is known to be a hazard and one who abuses it is easily brought to court.
Lead paint (a real example) is not known to be harmful and in fact is defended strongly by its manufacturers. How does your libertrian system prevent damage to millions of kids. In fact how does it prevent the damage from going on foreverd?
Similar with Tobacco and cigarettes. Who is it that finds the hazard and establishes the scientific basis to take it to court?
