As the broke and mindless citizens of Rome shouted with joy, the victorious gladiator turned to the emperor and saluted him. The emperor stood up and hailed the mighty gladiator, the favorite gladiator of the people, and the crowd for the moment forgot that the empire's borders were collapsing, they forgot that cities were falling on the empire's edge from barbarian invasion, they forgot how the barbarian generals who vowed loyalty to Rome betrayed Rome, they forgot the grains from Egypt have stopped and citizens were starving, they forgot. The crowd suddenly felt closer to the emperor and cheered for the emperor.
But those were people living 2000 years ago, we are much smarter now.
It's typical that a handful of players in the NFL, NBA, etc every year skip the White House visit. In this case, the entire team agreed to opt out.
“All the tactics that he used to get elected are the very things that someone like me, who works with youth on a consistent basis, are the things that we try to talk our young folks out of being,” Warriors Forward David West said.
"We try to talk our young people out of being bullies. We try to talk our young men out of disrespecting women. We try to talk our young people into being accepting of other people’s opinions and other people’s walks of life. He is the complete opposite of all of that,” West added.

LOL like NBA players are role models. These guys get more women while out on the road than anyone.
And I actually like watching the NBA, but give me a break.
I wonder if West tries to steer young men away from music artists that have lyrics that disrespect women?
The appropriate question here is "If a music artist with disrespectful lyrics INVITED THEM TO PARTICIPATE (or pose for an album cover, or market their album), would they decline?"
As a team, I did not see any news where GSW tried to steer anyone away from Trump. I'm sure that's their wish, but I don't know of a case where they did it.
Good for them for standing up for their values, and good for them for doing the American thing, and protesting against 'wrong' in a peaceful manner.
Good for them, all the more reason to admire a great team, and congratulations on winning the Finals!
