Operation Northwoods was an actual conspiracy, although it never was put into practice. The plan was for the US to destroy one of their own military ships, blame it on Cuba, and gain public support to invade.
I'd have to look it up again, but I'm pretty sure they even said something along the lines of making sure to have very public funerals and ceremonies for the dead US soldiers. Pretty messed up.
* Watergate - revealed the Gulf of Tonkin incident used as a pretext by the Johnson administration to invade Vietnam and start the Vietnam War was based on a complete fabrication.
* Bush administration lied about WMDs, sent thousands of young Americans to their deaths based on yet another fabrication (history has a habit of repeating itself don't it?). If Bush and Company are capable of that, I don't doubt they are capable of murdering thousands of American citizens who worked at the World Trade Center as a pretext to start more never ending wars.
* Wikileaks has proved our elections are rigged.
I agree except for the bolded part. I don't think the 9/11 conspiracy theories hold much weight. However, Bush did use the crisis and his political capital it gave him to get a war in Iraq started that he wanted from the beginning. The WMD case always seemed weak, even in 2003 when it was the most supported.
Imo, the Warren Report on the Kennedy Assassination is a work of fiction, and the "2nd gunman" conspiracy theory is probably closer to what actually happened on 11/22/63
Have you read it? I have. There are a lot of facts in it, and though naysayers claim there had to be another shooter there is zero evidence of any other shooter.
I'm probably asking for trouble, but curious. Inspired by tonight's iZombie and some posts in this forum....
So many of the conspiracy theories a la "we never landed on the moon" "Elvis lives!" and the like just seem so...out there. Can you think of anything like this that ended up being true? I'm not even sure what qualifies as true...widely accepted? Shown by later science/forensics/etc to actually be plausible/real? Aliens wrote it up in their version of the National Enquirer?
The 911 Report, was horror to read just how right the conspiracy theorist were.
All the talk of Communist trying to infiltrate our government and Universities, in the 1960's
