exactly right. the emoluments clause is about GIFTS AND TITLES given by foreign governments, not legitimate business operations.
That too. But also includes payments, which means that any foreign state guests staying at Trump hotel or playing on a Trump golf course, paying management fees to one his property management companies... puts Trump in violation of the Constitution.
Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8 of the Constitution.
“...And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”
Emolument means payment, not profit from those payments.
Emolument: Payment made for work that has been done. Refers to payments made to millers for grinding corn as "emolere" means "grind out."
There is no question that accepting any payment from a foreign state is in violation of the Constitution.
Now whether Trump will be held to the oath he took to protect and defend the Constitution remains to be seen.

Now I've seen it all. What a crock of ****. Again, then Obama and every other Congress critter who ever sold a book to a foreign dignitary is in violation. There is absolutely nothing here.

The unprecedented legal action will accuse Trump of violating the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts or titles from foreign governments without congressional approval, according to lawmakers leading the effort.
The lawsuit will have the greatest number of congressional plaintiffs of any lawsuit against the president in the nation’s history, according to Michigan Rep. John Conyers, the House Judiciary Committee’s top-ranking Democrat.

Believing things that just aren't so isn't going to help matters.
Obama moved all his investments into indexed stocks. As the nation's economy improved, so did his net worth. Payments for books come via his publisher, Penguin Random House rather than from foreign nations trying to influence the POTUS. But if you want to sue someone over the emoluments clause, go for it.
