We have laws. Illinois HAS laws. There are laws against randomly shooting people. If someone does not want to follow said laws they do no good and more will do no better...

That's a matter of perception.

People on the left see hateful posts from people on the right and perceive a hateful climate deliberately created by the right, while people on the right see hateful posts from people on the left. I don't think either side is innocent, and the hate seems to be about equal.
