If an elected official stood before a crowd and claimed that Christianity was ruining the country, that Christians were disease-ridden pigs and that they were the biggest threat to the country, she'd be dragged from office the same day.
This woman is actually lying to people to scare them. I don't doubt she's being sincere, but she's extremely ignorant. As a gay man, to hear this from an elected official, it makes me embarassed to live in this country, if not scared.
I listened to the entire "speech" by Ms. Kern. Did you? I didn't hear her once say "disease-ridden pigs". And by stating HER OPINION, she isn't lying. Because you're a gay man, I expect you to take offense at her. But don't exaggerate what she said and go into convulsive fits. Homosexuality is as old as mankind. And mankind has survived.

She quoted statistics from "Dr." Cameron, who puts out anti-gay propaganda to dehumanize gay people. She discussed how gay people live "dangerous lives, shortened life spans", etc. This is straight from the Cameron propaganda which, if you read it, is very disturbing (and has been debunked) He says it's good to discriminate against gay people, that they like it so they can be victims, that they're diseased, prey on children, etc.
The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation; it's just a fact
Whatever. I'm concerned about many things destroying this nation and homosexuality isn't one of them. She most definitely isn't speaking for me, on this subject.
This woman reminds me why I fled my homestate of Kansas at a young age. What a sorry, ignorant woman. And those comments were horrible. Sorry Oklahoma, you're certainly not "OK" and I'll never step foot in your state again.
So life is nicer in the state of Colorado where a bigot like James Dobson and his Focus on the Family is headquartered?

I grew up in Kansas and it has very little in common with Oklahoma. Both of my parents are from rural (small town) Oklahoma and my grandmother was a full blooded Osage. Oklahoma has always been a poor state. It has taken either abuse or being ignored by the rest of the country for years. It has 2 major metro areas but has yet to land any major league sports of any kind. The rest of the country has felt free to exploit Oklahoma and leave pollution behind- to the point that lakes in the state are becoming unusable. Things go on in Oklahoma that could NEVER be gotten away with in Kansas. That is probably why people there are so angry all the time and say stupid crap like they do.
Ms. Kern is allowed to have her opinion. She has a right to free speech. She didn't ask anyone to agree with her, she simply stated her outlook on the gay "agenda".
Oklahoma isn't California and that is exactly why many of us choose to live here amongst traditional values and lifestyles...
However, like it or not, Oklahoma in recent years has been revolting against the religious right agenda and its traditional values. For instance, politicians who supported the religious right agenda said not to vote in favor of bringing casinos and lotteries into the state. But Oklahomans voted to bring that stuff in, anyway. The church people opposed legalizing tattooing but it got legalized. Thank God, that Oklahoma is less like Iran now, the only other place on earth known where tattooing is banned.

As an Oklahoman, I'm afraid your comments are all too true. Talking about pollution and lakes, I could hardly believe that in the 2007 Oklahoma Republican Platform that it states in not one, but two, places that animal waste should NOT be labeled as hazardous. Oklahoma Republicans want to give companies the freedom to spread as much chicken manure on the land for fertilizer as they want, without regard to runoff problems to lakes, streams and wells!
After many years of having an oil industry it is, indeed, ironic that Oklahoma seems so poor. About the only signs of wealth from it are in the older, wealthy neighborhoods in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and in Bartlesville where Phillips Petroleum started. Surely, much of the oil wealth and profits got sucked up by the out of state oil companies in the northeast. Ever heard of Penn Oil and Quaker State oil?
On the bright side, Oklahoma City will be adding on to its Ford Center arena to attract a pro basketball team. (Tulsa is currently building an even nicer arena to keep up.) But with Mrs. Kern's irrational ranting against gays, I won't be surprised if a number of people are gonna think that Oklahoma City isn't modern enough in attitude to appreciate becoming a big league city.

Hmm. Interesting post, but I said absolutely NOTHING about the "religious right". My statement was in favor of a "traditional" lifestyle; you know, a mom and dad and two dogs and two cars and public school and neighbors and Friday night football games and Saturday night pizza....
The shame about it is that large amounts of homosexuals still cling to the thought that the Republicans are their friends and care about them. Nothing could be further from the truth!
Count me in that group. I'm a gay man but I vote republican nearly every election. You're right, republicans are generally anti gay rights (not all), but I agree with them on nearly every other issue. I agree with the democrats on the gay rights issue, but I disagree with them on nearly everything else. I refuse to be tied to a political party over one issue.
